Purpose of Job
To provide professional translation and interpreting services
in agreed language to a range of clients, staff, and volunteers
of statutory and voluntary agencies. These agencies will include
Fife Council, NHS Fife, Fife Police, Voluntary Organisations etc.
In addition, the post-holder will undertake such duties as may
be reasonably be required to support the provision of those services.
Major Activities
To provide professional translation and interpreting in wide
range of settings, including medical, educational, social work,
housing and criminal justice, both in person and/or by any other
method of communication as appropriate e.g. Telephone.
To translate a wide range of documents such as certificates,
letters (official and personal), Reports, leaflets and posters,
newsletter etc
To Contribute to the maintenance, collection and dissemination
of service data, as required for the ongoing monitoring and evaluation
of the services provided by Fife Community Interpreting Service;
To Participate in user training activities as required to ensure
the delivery of quality services;
To carry out other duties as deemed necessary by the organiser
or service management committee and sub-groups.
To adhere to Fife Community Interpreting Services Equal
Opportunities policy and to implement any practice guidelines
in the course of duties, and to carry out all of the above in
accordance with current legislation such as Health and Safety,
Data Protection Act etc.
The post-holder is required to carry out administrative tasks
accordingly. These include keep and update dairy of dates, times
and places of interpreting work, completing forms such as evaluation
and claim etc.
Hours of Work
Whenever required.
The post-holder may be asked to carry out duties out-with normal
office hours. The post-holder will be required to sign and observe
a client confidentiality agreement.
Additional Information
The post-holder will be required to travel throughout Fife. Travel
expenses will be paid in accordance with Fife Community Interpreting
Services current travelling and subsistence allowances policy.
The post-holder will be required to have a broad knowledge of
the cultural context of languages and to behave in a professional
manner consistent with good standards of interpreting practice.
Confidentiality must be observed at all times. In accordance with
Fife Community Interpreting Services Confidentiality policy,
the post-holder will be required to sign and observe a client
confidentiality agreement.
The post-holder will agree with the Organiser but will provide
interpreting and translation services without supervision.
